The World's First Osmotic Power Plant
ElectricSteve writes "Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway officially opened the world's first osmotic power plant prototype on November 24. The prototype has a limited production capacity and will be used primarily for testing and data validation, leading to the construction of a commercial power plant in a few years time. Statkraft claims that the technology has the global potential to generate clean, renewable energy equivalent to China's total electricity consumption in 2002 or half of the EU's total power production" What's osmotic power? Wikipedia to the rescue!Read more of this story at Slashdot.

The World's First Osmotic Power Prototype Opens Today
The plant generates power by exploiting the energy available when fresh water and seawater are mixed. Osmotic power is a renewable and emissions-free energy source that Statkraft has been researching for 10 years and that will be capable of making a substantial global contribution to eco-friendly power production. Green Energy Plant Generates Electricity 24/7 with Osmosis
Green Energy Plant Generates Electricity 24/7 with Osmosis
SmarterTechnology.com has all the details on the world's first osmotic power plant that was unveiled in Norway today, permitting continuous electricity generation 24/7 by using osmosis to harness the gradient between salt- and fresh-water. StatKraft claims that osmosis is superior to solar, wind and wave power, because it is nearly unlimited, renewable, sustainable and always available. Get the whole story at: tinyurl.com

CETO Wave Power
CETO Wave Power
A world first has been achieved at the Henderson marine base in Western Australia, with the launch of an Australian designed and built and British backed wave energy generator to sit on the sea floor and produce electricity and fresh water with no fossil fuel input. CETO is the first wave power converter to sit on the seabed, where it is invisible, safe from storms and ocean forces, and self contained. Unlike other wave energy technologies that require undersea grids and costly marine qualified plant, CETO requires only a small diameter pipe to carry high pressure seawater ashore to either a turbine to produce electricity, or to a reverse osmosis filter to produce fresh water.
